Summary: Billy, a high school senior, has lost a lot in the past year, including his younger sister, Sara. Billy lacks excitement and purpose in life until his curiosity takes him and his best friend, Connor, to an old, abandoned landfill along the river. Connor would rather forget the experience, but Billy can’t help but feel invigorated by their findings. Taking it upon himself to uncover the mystery, Billy finds his life coming full circle – but is that a good or bad thing?
Billy is a senior in high school. A year ago, almost to the day, his sister died. A short time later, so did his mom. Now it's just him and his dad - and his dad has plans for the one year anniversary of his sister's death. At the same time, on the way home from school with his friend, he notices a giant hill of sand and because curious. One night they decide to go investigate - which only leads to more questions. The two twists at the end - wow - plus an ending I could have only hoped for from a short story, but never expected. Well done, Kevin, well done.
